Looking at this tomorrow. Anything of note to worry about? It’s $1,600 which is directly in a friends budget.

It’s the 200 and not the 300, so big thumbs up there. It might burn oil, but you save on oil changes since you’re always adding fresh oil.
I will say that at $1600, it better be damn nice...

They are not good cars. The L-series is the American version of the Opel Vectra B. Also shared with the Saab 9-5. First use of the 2.2L Ecotec in the US. The oil filter cartridge is easy to change, but make sure you lubricate both O-rings and avoid over-torquing the cap, or the filter will buckle in service. The best oil filter to use is the Purflux L264A. Purflux was actually the OE supplier when the L was new.
There is a lot of space under the hood. Small engine in a big car. DO NOT get the V6!
Body computer failure is common, and if that happens, the odometer will say 600k or so and freeze at that point, and the turn signals won’t work. The cluster also like to burn out dash bulbs. The odometer bulb has a short lifespan for an LED (the original odo bulb is LED while the rest were regular filament bulbs)
Also, the wheels have lug bolts. Some people hate them. The best cabin filter to get is the Denso DCF205K. Available on the
British eBay site for about $20.Shipping takes about a week.
Only buy it if it’s in really good condition, has no problems, and has a lot of features. If the one you’re looking at has the heated seats, know that they get nice and hot and work quick :o)

Dont know what engine changes, if any, there might be since the ‘00 LS2 (which is, unfacelifted, the same car iirc), but there may be stumbles and misses from bad ignition modules and the like. Not bank-breaking, but diagnosis heavy. Also, you may be due a rear suspension rebuild, because they wear out like a mofo.
Might be due a n a/c compressor or the like.

Oh snap. That’s good info.

Worked at the dealer during the short lifespan of these cars. the Saab V6 is crap, but those must all have been crushed before. Boring, somewhat reliable cars. Available as a manual wagon. Not a “good” car, but any that are still on the road are probably good examples.
There were both better and worse products from Saturn in that era. But like the s-seires S aturns, ones that have survived to this point will continue to do so. the bad ones are all living their best life as spoons and bottles now.

It’s going to a guy that needs something. It’s this one or a 2004 Kia Rio with rusty quarter for the price

you can kick the saturn with everything you’ve got (ambient temperature dependent) Can’t do that to a Kia. Is there third option?

Another Kia probably. Or a 2004 Sonata.

I had an L200 and an L300 wagon. They were both reliable for me, but the 300 had constant CEL’s due to emissions related shit.
